THOUGHT OF THE DAY
It’s not anthrax or terrorism or AIDS that is the worst ill in our world. The most horrible disease in the world is hate.

PRESIDENTS REPORT
Pepetau and Matilda our ROMAC Mother and daughter from Vanuatu leave Aotearoa on Wednesday April 3rd to return home. Elaine will take them to the airport. Thank you Elaine for everything you have done.
Elaine took them and another Vanuatu Mother Mary with her son to the zoo last Sunday. She now remembers why the zoo is not a regular visit on her calendar.
Matilda has grown so much and put on weight after her operation. She is now walking.

When Edith and I visited a couple of weekends ago we learned from Pepetau that she had been living on one of the main islands in ROMAC accommodation. She had not seen her husband or her other 5 children for over a year. Her sister was looking after her children

ROMAC will get her back to Vanuatu but there is a gap of a flight and a ferry trip to get them both out to the outer island where they live. They are very poor and Peptau has no money to get home.
Elaine is going to talk to ROMAC to get a quote for the flight and the ferry for our club to pay the last stages of her journey.

EDITORS REPORT
The things you do for your kids……. Past weekend saw Izzy & I do the XRACE at Totara Park. Had meant to be a family affair, but Mike piked as was on his annual fishing boys weekend, & then so did Brayden as had a friends birthday & sleepover party. That left us girls……… We had a blast, even if lots & lots of running. Did I mention the lots & lots of running. OMG the area between the challenges were crazy, but thankfully being much fitter than last year, was much easier than it would have been.

NEXT WEEK - BIG BUDDY Paul Burns
Big Buddy works on the simple philosophy that boys develop more confidence and resilience when they have a positive male role model to learn from.
Some boys  don't have a dad in their lives. So Big Buddy finds kind-hearted mentors to spend a little time with them each weekend. We are a free, secular charity that thoroughly screens men from the community, then matches them with a Little Buddy between 7 and 14 years of age. This small commitment makes a huge difference...to both lives!
THIS WEEK - Glynis Carter on tax
Glynis kindly sent through some her important info from her talk this week. Phew.....as this will make way more sense than my notes.....lol....... So make sure you read more for all the goss........

MATILDA OUR ROMAC BABY
Our Vanuatu family arrived back in NZ in January 2019, I had the pleasure of greeting Pepetua and little Mathilda at the airport with our ROMAC colleagues. It was so great to see Pepetua’s face light up with a huge smile when she saw me

I knew then that we had made the right decision as a club to support them on the second leg of Mathilda’s journey towards wellness.
As many of you know Mathilda came to NZ in October 18 to have cardiac surgery. It became apparent early on that she was not fit enough for her major cardiac surgery as her lungs were very underdeveloped. She had a stent inserted into her major pulmonary blood vessel to widen this and make sure that she could get enough oxygen to her major organs for essential growth. They both returned home to family for Christmas.

FAMOUS AT LAST........
Club famous..........well our stories anyway......

Well done Les, all your effort in writing about the painted elephant was worth it, as was picked up by our District Editor & placed in this months District Bulletin. Make sure you open the link that everyone would have been sent........

BAG COUNT OUT OF THIS WORLD.....
So the weekend I got the kids working up a sweat...... We firstly sorted all the bags, then counted them all. This load was 220, & since then have had another full "truck" load, which will be counted. My guess we will have an excess of 500 by the time we are done......... Bring on May when we start filling these wonderful bags!!!
