Another good speaker on Tuesday. Doing something positive about the homeless.
Edith's birthday this week and she has been away in Tauranga home last night, so intimate restaurant dinner and the contemporary dance "the Complexions - Bach to Bowie" at the CIVIC theatre tonight.
Off to the District Conference in Napier tomorrow interesting line up of speakers. Brings back memories of Leanne's conference in 2008 doesn't seem like 11 years ago!
On Friday we have the cycle tour around 6 vineyards. There are only 6 electric bikes first come first served! Edith so much wants an electric bike.
See you all Tuesday.
So funny being back to Rotary after a few missed meetings, what with school holidays, Easter & Anzac. It doesn't rain, it pours...... Now all go to head down for a little memory lane as last time in Napier for a Conference, well it was for mine.......
Couldn't help adding an old photo of Glynis & I, at my Art Deco themed night. We had a ball........ Hoping it will be the same for this one, though lending my red dress to Cathy (in blue) as a new one for this occasion...... A story for next week I am sure.
GUEST SPEAKER - Rami Alrudain
Another great speaker this week with Rami, the GM for Link People. This group is part of Wise Group, with 10 other organisations including Pathways which Elaine works for, so a very small world. They actually grew out of Pathways back in early 2000 where they started with around 17 staff & now have over 100. Their property portfolio has also grown from 100 to about 260 houses.
Their expertise is in mental health & follow the housing first model. Started with Homeless to emergency housing to transitional housing to finally permanent. Now homeless to permanent housing.
Different types of homeless
- 80% transitional (people you don't see as sleeping in cars, sheds etc
- 15% episodically (in & out of homelessness)
- 5% chronically (see on the streets)
NEXT WEEK - Michael Northcott
My name is Michael Northcott, and I enjoy through working for the CP Society the ability to be part of a team that assists people with Cerebral Palsy to be able to live better lives, and I think that the Programmes the Society offers makes a real difference to our members.
I have worked for a number of businesses, including organisations in the disability field, prior to joining the team at the CP Society.
For the Cerebral Palsy Society I fulfil many roles including answering many of the incoming calls and queries. In addition I have the Welfare Officer role, and in conjunction with Auckland Transport carry out Total Mobility assessments.
I coordinate a number of projects including the getOnYour Trike programme, purchasing equipment and IT assistance for the office, and at times, for members.
I enjoy swimming, reading, movies, repairing/ building things, and coming up with workable and effective solutions to challenges. I especially enjoy spending quality time with friends, family, and loved ones
