Handbags to Heal

Supporting Womens Refuge

PDG Leanne Jaggs of RC Manukau Sunrise Inc, stole this idea from reading about a club in RDU doing something similar. She thought it was such a great idea, that her club could try this as a new project. After approaching her club members with an idea of clearing out their wardrobes & finding near new handbags that they could fill with goodies for woman in need, she sent an e-mail out to all clubs to do the following, offering pick up’s for clubs that needed it.

What started as a 20-30 handbag project, quickly turned into something, bigger than Ben Hur. So many clubs donated handbags, goods to put in them & soon RC Manuaku Sunrise had in excess of 200+ handbags. Using The Rotary Foundation District Grants, they were able to purchase many goods for these bags & has now become an annual project for the club, helping Woman’s Refuge & local woman’s groups who need help getting back to feeling better about themselves. Packing the bags is one of the club’s highlights during the Rotary year.
